Your Day of Surgery: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Hello everyone, daniel.k here! With my experience of multiple surgeries, I thought itd be helpful to share what to expect on the day of your surgery, especially for those who are about to go through this for the first time. First, ensure you follow the pre-operative instructions given by your surgeon—this might include fasting, medication guidelines, or specific preparation steps. Youll typically check in at the hospital or surgical center where a nurse will guide you through the process, confirm your paperwork, and get you settled in. Its normal to feel nervous, so don’t hesitate to communicate your feelings to the staff; theyre there to help you feel comfortable. You’ll then meet the anesthesiologist and possibly your surgeon once more before the procedure. After surgery, you will spend time in a recovery room where your vitals are monitored closely as you wake up from anesthesia. The amount of time you spend here can vary depending on the surgery and how you’re feeling. Remember, every surgery is different, so experiences can vary. Nonetheless, knowing what generally happens can alleviate some anxiety. Feel free to share your concerns or ask any questions. Wishing everyone a smooth and safe surgery experience!
